A drag bucket, also called a dragline bucket or trailing scoop, is one of the most practical earthmoving tools you can have on a property. Tow it behind a tractor and you can move significant volumes of material efficiently: levelling road surfaces, clearing ditches, managing irrigation channels, or shifting loose soil and gravel around the farm.
It's not a precision grading tool. It's a workhorse, built for volume earthmoving where you need to get a lot of ground shifted without bringing in a dedicated earthmoving contractor every time.

Cutting Edge Performance

Reversible cutting edges are worth noting here. A lot of drag buckets use replaceable edges – which is fine, but you're replacing the whole edge when one side wears. Ours are reversible, meaning a worn edge can simply be flipped and you're back at work.

They're the same thing – the terms are used interchangeably. You'll also hear them called trailing scoops. Whatever you call it, it's a towed earthmoving bucket designed to be pulled behind a tractor for levelling and material-moving work on farms and rural properties.
What size tractor do I need to run a drag bucket?
Our standard 12ft (3.6m) drag bucket is suited to mid-to-large farm tractors. If you're unsure whether your tractor has the grunt for the job, give us a call and we'll talk through your setup. Horsepower and drawbar capacity both factor in, and it's better to sort that out before you order.
Why are reversible cutting edges better than replaceable ones?
With replaceable edges, you replace the whole edge when it wears out. With reversible edges, you flip the edge when one side is worn and get a fresh cutting surface – without buying a new one. It's a small design choice that adds up to real savings over the life of the bucket.
Can I use a drag bucket for irrigation channel maintenance?
Yes, and it's one of the more common uses. A drag bucket handles channel clearing and shaping well, particularly for maintaining the profile of existing channels.
